Preparing the walls

  • If you are panelling over tiles, scrub the tiles clean making sure there is no soap scum build up or grime left. If you plan to apply the panels to walls that have been painted, make sure the walls are free from grease and dirt by using sugar soap. When you have cleaned the surface, ensure that it is completely dry before starting to allow for strong adhesion.
  • Make sure the wall are smooth, and free from large bumps and dents. For smaller cracks, marks and holes, use a wall filler before continuing. If the surface is uneven, we recommended that the wall is prepared properly beforehand such as by re-plastering it, otherwise the panels may not adhere correctly.
  • If there is mould and mildew present, make sure to resolve this issue completely before applying panelling.

Planning and trimming the panels.

  • Using a tape measure and pencil/marker pen, measure, and mark where you will cut the panels to shape. Make sure to double check that the lines are straight by using a spirit level. If any of the panels do not align, they will not slot together correctly.
  • Using a utility knife or fine-toothed saw (coping saw), cut the panels into the desired lengths and shape.
  • Make sure to take your time when cutting the panels to size, as it is important the lines are straight.

Applying the adhesive

  • The next step is to apply the adhesive to the panels. Make sure to use a strong adhesive, we recommend using an Soudal Fix All High Tack Adhesive.
  • Apply the adhesive in a zig-zag pattern (every 3-4 cm), leaving a half cm gap around the border of the panel to avoid the product from squeezing out of the edges when fixing to the wall.

Fixing to the wall

  • Starting from bottom to top for vertical application, attach to the wall groove facing downwards. Adjust the panel to make sure it is straight and press down firmly.
  • Once the first panel is up, check that it is even with a spirit level before continuing with the application of other panels.
  • If you have chosen vertical installation, ensure that the tongue is oriented upwards and to the side. This allows for panel interlocking.
  • If you are placing the panels in a humid setting such as a bathroom, apply silicone around two to three millimetres above the panel and lock onto the wall.
  • Connect the panel with the next one, proceeding in the same manner as before, and finishing near the ceiling.

Internal Corners

  • For external corners, cut the corner at a 45-degree angle, and secure with tape if necessary whilst putting the panels together.
  • Using trims keeps the panels together permanently along with using adhesive.
  • If you wish to add internal corners, slide one panel against the other.
  • Use silicone/acrylic sealant from ceiling to floor to seal the internal corner.

Other information

  • If you need to cut holes in the panelling, use a hole saw to complete this.
  • Do not install near anywhere with increased heat such as gas stoves and fireplaces.
